Hospice of Hope Volunteer Program

There is no required time commitment, and scheduling is flexible. Volunteers can work as many or as few hours and days as they wish.

Become a Hospice of Hope Volunteer Today!

Many Hospice of Hope volunteers find it personally gratifying to help those in need at a critical time in their lives. Volunteers offer companionship to our patients and families, and they often become a source of strength and support for our patients as well. Whether you are available just an hour or two a week or several days a month, or whether you wish to work directly with patients or prefer to help in the office, you can make a huge difference in the lives of our patients and families.

All Hospice of Hope volunteers are required to go through an interview process and complete a training program tailored to the volunteer role that they have chosen. Other requirements include taking a TB test, driving record check, and criminal record check. Additionally, volunteers must provide their own transportation, but they may be reimbursed for mileage if requested. If not, Hospice of Hope will consider this as a donation to our organization.

How Can You Help?

Patient Support: This can include companionship, reading to patients, taking walks, listening to music, writing letters, taking them to appointments, and other activities.

Family Support: Volunteers can assist with shopping and other errands or stay with the patient to allow family caregivers a break from the demands of caregiving.

Staff Support: Volunteers help in our offices or at either of our two inpatient centers, with copying, filing, making phone calls, and other office jobs to support hospice staff.

Professional Support: Volunteers can provide beautician services, sewing, massage therapy, carpentry, pet therapy, or music therapy, and many other professional services.

We Honor Veterans: Veterans have sacrificed so much to serve our country, and we believe that it is never too late to give them a hero’s welcome home. Volunteers are trained to conduct respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgment to comfort and honor patients with a history of military service.

Bereavement Support: Hospice of Hope volunteers work closely with our professional bereavement staff. They can assist with memorial services, grief camps, work in our bereavement library, and help with mailings to families.

Special Events and Fundraising: Volunteers are involved in almost every aspect of our special events and fundraising events. Because special events do not occur on a regular basis, these volunteers are called on as needed.

Community Outreach and Ambassadors: Volunteers represent Hospice of Hope at community events, such as health fairs and volunteer fairs. They also speak to civic and community groups about our services, programs, and volunteer opportunities.
